SAVE THE OCEANS

Welcome to the English workshop SAVE THE OCEANS

Today we´re going to see basic facts about the oceans heir fauna, and how we can involve actively in

 preserving them both.

Answer the different questions on your paper strip with the helps of the different links.

From time to time we´ll watch a video together.

     READY, STEADY...GO!!!!

First let´s see if you can NAME and PLACE the different OCEANS on a WORLD MAP.

And now, let´s start with the quiz:

     1. How much of our body is water?

     2. How much of the Earth is water?

     3.  How much of the Earth´s water do oceans contain?

Now CLOSE YOUR COMPUTER, let´s , share your answers and relax watching a video.

After watching the video let´s see if you can place the different oceans adequately

Let´s watch this video about one very specific place .

OPEN YOUR COMPUTERS again and let´s continue:

      4. What´s the deepest place in the ocean? Where is it? How deep is it

      5. Now we are going to investigate about two important facts in the North Atlantic Ocean:

THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE and THE GULF STREAM

Here you are eight pieces of information. Say whether they refer to

                          THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE (A);  or

                           THE GULF STREAM (B)

               1. It consists of a clockwise-rotating system of smaller currents

              2. About 50 ships and 20 planes have disappeared inside it.

              3. The Spanish navigator Juan Ponce de León discovered it in the early 16th century.

              4. It´s situated off North America

              5. The president of the USA, Benjamin Franklin,  produced the first map of it in the 1700s.

              6. It flows between the North part of North America and Canada

              7. Strange things began to take place there in the mid 19th-century

              8. Some waves over there can reach up to 30.5 metres high.

CLOSE YOUR COMPUTERS again and let´s watch these videos about:

THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE and THE GULF STREAM

So far you´ve already seen how important oceans are.

  6.  Here you are the name of ten ocean endangered species. Write down their names

  7. These species are endangered because of water pollution. Now reorder the

10 most common types of ocean pollution

                     A. LIGHT POLLUTION           B. POLLUTION FROM ATMOSPHERIC EMISSIONS

C.  PLASTIC AND GARBAGE POLLUTION    D. POLLUTION FROM OIL SPILLS

                E. POLLUTION FROM TOXIC INDUSTRIAL WASTE AND SEWAGE

          F. POLLUTION FROM EUTROPHICATION     G. POLLUTION FROM DEEP SEA MINING

1.                                        H. POLLUTION FROM FERTILISERS, PESTICIDES AND INSECTICIDES

                          I. POLLUTION MADE BY SEA AND MARITIME EQUIPMENT

                          J. CHEMICALS FROM SKINCARE PRODUCTS, ESPECIALLY SUNCREAMS

  8. All these facts show us a chaotic future forward so ... what can we do to improve the situation?

COPY in your grid FIVE things you can do to reduce ocean pollution
