READ THESE TEXTS ON THE ORIGINS OF SOME TRADITIONAL FOOD AND DRINKS Horchata is a traditional drink in some parts of Spain. It looks like a vanilla milkshake, but it isn´t made with milk – it´s made with tiger nuts! They are pulses that grow underground. To make horchata, you leave the tiger nuts in water for a day. Then you squeeze the juice out of them. You can add sugar, lemon, and cinnamon. Horchata is also the name of a drink in Mexico, but it tastes very different. It´s made with rice! Custard is a traditional British desert. It´s a creamy pudding made with eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla. To make custard, you mix all the ingredients and then cook them very slowly.  You can eat the custard warm or cold. Some British people like to put custard on other desserts like fruit pies. Did you know that Irish coffee is one of the most famous drinks from Ireland? Do you know what ingredients are used in its making? How do they combine? Watch this video  for info and then reorder the parts of the process.  A. Mix the ground coffee with hot water B. Put some cream on top of the coffe and decorate with coffee beans. C. Pour the right measure of Irish whiskey into each glass. D. Mix hot water and brown sugar to get sugar syrup. E. Press the coffee and pour it into the glasses. F. Pour hot water into the glasses. G. Pour the sugar syrup into the glasses. H. Grind the coffee beans to have real fresh coffee. I. Whip the cream till it thickens. J. Dump the hot water from the glasses.

What´s the origin of pancakes? Since when are they eaten? Where do people celebrate Pancake Day? Watch this video Read the following text for more info Shrive is an old Saxon word, of which shrove is a corruption and signifies confession. Pancake Day is another name for Shrive Tuesday, from the custom of eating pancakes on this day is still generally observed.   The word pancakes appears in print as early as 1430. Pancakes are an essential part of a classic American breakfast. One of George Washington’s breakfast foods were pancakes that were literally dunked in maple syrup.  He would   plunge each piece of his pancake under the syrup, sopping it good before he ate it.    Pancakes may  have been around since Neolithic times when people mixed wheat, ground it into flour  mixed with  bird’s egg and goat’s milk and poured the batter on a heated rock.
