6th COURSE: ORIGIN OF THE NAMES OF THE MONTHS

Do you know what the origin of the names of the months is? You´ll surely do after this simple task. Enjoy it!!        Our names of months all come from Latin.  Janus a god with two faces, the god of doors and gates gives as one month, and February comes from a Roman festival of spring cleaning.      The name of one planet - named after the Roman god of war - , who didn´t get a day of thew week in English, got one whole month.        Juno  makes another month.         Most of the latter months come from the Latin numbers 7 , 8, 9 and 10. But why is September month number seven? It was for the Romans, because they started the year with March.         Spring is the time when flowers blossom or open, an action in Latin that gimes name to another month.          A Greek goddes - Maia - gives name to another month

6th COURSE: ORGIN OF THE NAMES OF THE DAYS OF THE WEEK

Do you know where the names of the days of the week come from? Don´t worry. You´ll do after this simple task: Enjoy it!!!!      You can´t find any cycles of seven days by looking at the sky.                However, the ancient world knew five planets apart from the sun and moon: Venus, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.       They probably made the week seven days long to give one day for each. In English, the first days of the week clearly come from The Sun and The Moon.       The last day comes from another planet, can you guess which one is it?.       Just like the rest of the English language, the English week is a mixture of Latin and words from other places ... Germanic gods  Tiw (an Anglo-Saxon god of the sun and war) and Wodin (the head of Anglo-Saxon gods) and Scandinavin gods Thor (another god of war) and Frigg or Freia (goddess of love).
