WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE.
In this task you´re going to discover more info about him. This info will help you do the matching
task underneath.
Now READ the following text:William Shakespeare is considered England´s national poet and the greatest dramatist of all time.
He
was born in Strattford-upon-Avon probably on April 23rd, 1564
William
Shakespeare´s family were eight members overall: his mother Mary Arden; his
father John; two older sisters and three younger brothers.
He
attended school in his hometown, at King´s New School, were he studied reading,
writing and the classics.
William married Ann Hathaway when he was 18. She was
eight years older and pregnant already. They had two boys and a girl. One of
the boys would die at eleven years old.
Documents say he arrived in London in the late 1580s
In the early 1590s he was a managing partner in the
Lord Chamberlain´s Men, a London
acting company. After James I became
king in 1603 the company changed its name to the King´s Men and became very
popular. Some of Shakespeare´s works became popular at that time.
In 1592 he had some of his plays produced by the
King´s Men. By 1597 15 of his 37 plays – he also wrote 157 sonnets - had
already been published. He bought New House in Sratford for his family.
In 1599 Shakespeare and his partners built the Globe
Theater by the River Thames in London .
There the company continued performing some of his old and hew plays. The main
themes being histories, tragedies, comedies and tragicomedies.
He died in London , when he was 52, about April 23rd.
